Follow these direction to prepare a new or existing i.Safe tablet for SIRE 2.0. During this process you will load applications from the Google Play Store. For devices currently managed by OCIMF, you will have to reset it, and then the setup process will be the same as a new device.
In all cases it is important to make sure the tablet is fully charged and connected to a power source using the supplied cable through the entire process. This step-by-step guide will help you through this process because there will be a few choices, but in most cases, you should accept the default.
If you have a new device proceed to “Tablet Setup”
Resetting an OCIMF Managed Tablet
To use the tablet outside of the Managed Desktop you will need to reset that device to the default, and everything on it will be wiped.
Before you start the reset process:
- Ensure you have good Wi-Fi connectivity
- Confirm that all inspections on your device have been submitted.
- Decide if you want to use an existing Google account (e.g., Gmail), and if so be sure to have your credentials ready.
Follow these steps to wipe the device:
- Start the tablet, it will be locked
- Enter “0000” as the PIN ten times, after the fifth attempt it will prompt you to wait 15 seconds before you can continue entering the “0000” PIN
- After the sixth attempt another warning will be displayed alerting you that after four more unsuccessful attempts it will reset and delete all of the data – you will have tap “Ok”
- Warning will continue until the tenth attempt, the screen will go blank until the i.safe screen appears and the wiping process starts.
- Be patient and allow the process to finish, when it displays the welcome screen.
Tablet Setup
- Switch on your tablet using power on the button on the side of the tablet (IS940.1) or on the front of the tablet (IS930.1). When it boots up, you're shown a “Hi there” screen, the language and Vision settings and a button marked “Start”. Ensure the language is set to English; it might already set. If it isn't, tap the “globe” and then chose it. Once all set tap the blue “Next” button in the bottom right corner of the screen. Tap the blue “Start” button.
2. On the next screen, you will be prompted to Connect to mobile network. Tap “Skip”
3. The tablet then scans for local Wi-Fi networks. Your Wi-Fi should appear on this screen. When it does, tap it. Enter your passcode, and leave the Auto Reconnect switched on, before tapping the “Connect” button. When your tablet has successfully connected, the Wi-Fi icon appears at the top of the screen, and the network List shows which one you're currently connected to. Now tap the “Next” button (bottom right).
4. The tablet then takes a few minutes to get itself set up, before it prompts you to “Copy Apps and Data from your existing tablet”. Tap “Don't Copy”.
5. Next, you must sign into your Google account. If you don't have one, tap “Create Account”. If you do, enter your Google credentials; tap “Next”, then the password; tap “Next” again.
6. You may be asked to verify that it's actually you who's trying to log in. If so, open the Google app on one of the devices listed and follow the steps to confirm. If you can't, tap “Try Another Way” and follow the on-screen instructions.
7. To continue, you must review and agree to the End User Licence Agreement and the privacy settings. When done go ahead and tap “I agree”.
8. Now it's time to set permissions for Android apps and Google services. You must now decide on a series of options, such as backing up Google Drive and sending usage and diagnostic data. Make your choices, tap “More”, and make some more choices before tapping “Accept”.
9. Next, OCIMF requires the device to have a PIN. Set it up by following the on-screen instructions.
10. The next is to tap “I Agree” to accept the “Hey Google” terms and conditions. You can tap the Skip button if you don’t wish to set.
11. Next, the tablet will move to the Anything else page where you can choose to setup a few more things such as adding a new email account, changing how text displays, changing wallpaper, or control info on the lock screen. If you wish to find them later in settings tap “No thanks”
12. You're done! Tap the “Finish” button to go straight to the tablet's desktop and start using your SIRE 2.0 Android device.
