SIRE Inspector - Editor software - MAC Users Emoji Shortcut stops the letters d, e and f from being entered into reports

In a recent update to the MAC operating system (Monterey released in October 2021) a number of new features were added, including a new emoji app. This automatically creates a keyboard shortcut that is mapped to the letter e on your MAC keyboard. When typing text into an inspection when using your editor software this causes an emoji icon to be entered instead of the letter. 

There is a fix to disable this mapped shortcut on your keyboard to prevent this issue from occurring. If you follow these brief steps this should resolve the issue: 

• Click the apple icon

• Open 'System Preferences...'

• Click 'Keyboard'

• Click 'Shortcuts' in the tab bar

• Click 'App Shortcuts' in the left panel

• Click the "+" icon below the right panel

• In the field labelled "Menu Title" enter: "Emoji & Symbols" - this is case sensitive, has to be capital E and S

• In the keyboard shortcut field enter a key combination, we would recommend something like "ctrl + shift + cmd + e" as it should be a long enough command that nothing else is using it. This will then prevent the emoji keyboard from opening when pressing 'e'

We have also heard from some inspectors that a similar issue is occurring with the letter d due to a dictation app that was also added. if you experience this issue you could do the something very similar: "Start Dictation", "ctrl + shift + cmd + d" or if dictation is not being used it can be switched off completely: Keyboard > Dictation > Dictation: Off | Shortcut: Off

Please ensure that when adding "Start Dictation..." that the three dots shown are included as this is very important. So once added it should appear in the shortcut menu like this: 

We have also started to receive reports of a similar issue with the letter f. A suggested fix is to set up a shortcut "Shift+Control+ Command+ F" for the "Enter Full Screen" command:
